About Me
Jedd Cole
Student at University of Cincinnati B.A. Rhetoric & Professional Writing Business Spanish Certificate Bio
I am an author and professional writer living in Cincinnati, OH. Though I was born in Pasadena, California, my family moved quite a bit, and I've called seven different states home. I spent most of my growing up years in northwest Arkansas, but I finished high school in Arizona. My sister and I were home schooled 1st through 12th, making all the moves a bit easier. It was during these moving around years that I nurtured my creative leanings, pursuing two-dimensional art and creative writing on my own time. When it came time for college, I decided drawing for a living would not be a viable career choice and embarked as an Early Childhood Education major, copying my then-girlfriend's path. This didn't stick either, and as my writing had been an unbroken theme throughout my life, I took my then-fiancee's suggestion (this was a few years later) to look into other options. The University of Cincinnati's Rhetoric & Professional Writing track has proved to be a perfect fit for my natural strengths and aptitudes. I've had success in copywriting/editing and design, and I've been able to add a Business Spanish certification to my degree to diversify my skills. I've also experienced success as a creative writer, having published over 20 short stories since moving into that genre in 2013, one of them being shortlisted for the U.K.'s James White Award for new writers. I also run an author's page focusing on my creative writing which you can find here, and where you can also find my blog focusing on creative writing, good reads, and publication. Interests
Short Fiction I've written over 60 short stories and have over 20 either published or forthcoming in various literary journals. Learn more here. Music I taught myself to play piano and guitar, and enjoy composing for both instruments. Classical music has always been a joy for me. My grandfather raised us grandkids on Beethoven, Bach, and Vivaldi. I personally get into more modern classical music, such as the work of Adams, Shnittke, and Richter. Novels Some of my all-time favorites include The Martian Chronicles (Bradbury), Invisible Man (Ellison), The Three Musketeers (Dumas), Dune (Herbert), and The Walking Drum (L'Amour). Languages Besides studying Spanish in earnest, I have always enjoyed digging into different languages and studying not only how to speak them but also how they work and function. Coffee Because yes. It's great that it's caffeinated and everything, but I mostly drink it for the taste. Yum! |
